Directionally Challenged - Route and Report
We weren't sure what to expect as far as turnout for this free event, so we were thrilled to see so much interest from local Gig Harbor residents. Let's hope the newbies had enough fun to get them hooked on Scrambles!
We started out with the pack, running southeast to #12 and #53, then retracing our steps and turning uphill toward the old white house (#24) and the post office (#36). We circled the church before finding the glass-paned doors at #21. On we traveled to the LDS church (#26) and the old white church (#45), back downhill to the end of the dock at #31 (nice boats but it seemed a little odd looking for graffiti!), and northward to #34 (Millville). Stayed on Harborview and hit #27 in the display window, and traveled up the road further to grab #33 (Rob Dickens plaque) and #43 (black pot).
Back to Harborview Drive and a quick jaunt to the viewing platform to discover there were actually three picnic TABLES, not benches (#28). We nearly missed the staircase, Elizabeth noticed it after we had gone a bit out of the way, but not much time lost. Caught the granite monument at the top of the stairs (#22) and climbed to the front door of the school to get #11, where we were met by the Scramble Patrol who asked for our team number.
On we walked/jogged to #35 (dog on sign) and then had a decision to make. It was 11:20 and we had #52 and #25 on our route, but we doubted our ability to make it back in time, so we retraced our steps, planning to pick up #44 on the way back (sort of) to the finish. We pushed on and made it (Andrew's troop number) and now just had a downhill cruise to the finish. We got in with a few minutes to spare.
We were a little confused about the results. Either the categories were changed for this Scramble, or we didn't check our entry form closely enough, but we ended up being announced in the Team category, rather than Women. Will have to wait and see when the results are posted.
We are trying to meet more and more of you....it was nice talking to Team Nisqually, The Cardinals and The Tideflats this time.
Thanks again to Terry and Eric for all of your hard work. See you in Everett on June 9.

Gig Harbor competition classes
This event was done on contract to the Gig Harbor YMCA so they got to decide many of the details of the event, including the duration and the competition classes. There were only 2 classes for teams on foot: Family and Team (all other teams).
For the Series Championship we will reclassify the Gig Harbor results of contending teams according to our usual competition classes.
