The Cardinals route and notes
Saturday's Street Scramble was great! I always look forward to the season starting and was not disappointed.
Because of the cold, the threat of rain, and Gwen feeling sick (and not being sure she had the strength to pedal up all the hills), we decided to do this Street Scramble on foot. This was the first three hour foot Scramble we've done where all of us have walked (no stroller).
Since we live near the arboretum, we decided we *had* to visit the two arboretum checkpoints, so we built our route around getting to those two checkpoints. We decided to do a loop from the start over to and through the arboretum and back. We decided to start north, go east, and then counter clockwise back up to the finish. Our route stayed entirely north of Madison:
S-15-32-57-21-44-58-31-23-45-13-12-54-43-25-E (420 points).
We enjoyed checkpoint 57, the trail off the stairs. We also enjoyed scrambling down a trail from 44 to one of the dead end streets leading to Boyer (the kids loved this part). Even though we've been in the arboretum many, many times, and I've run through there a lot, I've never seen the apiary behind the greenhouses--that was cool. On our way back, we knew we wanted to get 54, but we weren't sure we would have time for 43. It turned out we made good time, added in 43, and finished about 6 minutes early.
