Family Pee Wee class
As I read the rules, the Cardinals should have been in Family Pee Wee, since Corinne is under 8. Maybe some other teams, too?
I suppose you could classify Family teams by the age of the oldest kid, but that doesn't make much sense to me, since the youngest kid on foot is presumably the limiting factor --- a team with a 12 year old and a 6 year old isn't going to be appreciably faster than a team with just a 6 year old.

Seems right to me..
As we entered the day of race teams into the computer we noticed that several teams didn't fill in the class and team types leaving us to guess based on names (hard to know who is male or female) and age if dates of birth were even written down. Not sure if Cardinals were day of race but being the score guy for the day sure made me more aware of how hard it is dealing with lots of hand written entry forms... some of them we couldn't read the team name or the team members names and had to guess them too! I can't imagine what its like running a professional marathon.
The Cardinals and their class
I'm a little confused because we (The Cardinals) were not complaining about which class we got placed in. When we signed up for our annual pass, there wasn't the option of choosing the pee wee class (I'm guessing that's why we were in the family class) and the first we heard about it was when the results were announced.
We certainly are happy with our first place (10th overall) finish in the family class.
In Greg's original post, I think he was just commenting/clarifying about what the rules are for assigning teams to classes. I agree that it probably makes sense to assign class based on the youngest child.
I'm not sure I completely understand the need to split up the family class. The number of teams in the family class is fairly small anyway, especially when compared to some of the other classes. Why make them even smaller by splitting it up?
Thanks,

Oh! I didn't read the signature on the original post and assumed it was you, Brian, writing, and not you, Greg. Sorry.
I didn't think anyone was complaining. The fact is that the Cardinals belongs in the Family PeeWee class, and a mistake was made.
Capitol Hill had fewer Family teams than many events. Often there are a whole bunch. Kids are motivated by getting ribbons, so it seems like not a bad idea to help them get more. Finally, and most importantly, we wanted to make it possible for a team with kids traveling under their own power to get a blue ribbon -- previously, stroller teams almost always got the blue ribbons.
Note: The Family class for bike teams will NOT be split up because there aren't enough Family bike teams.

just asking for clarification
Brian is right, I was just asking for clarification. It seemed as though the Cardinals were not put in Pee Wee because they have a ?9?-year old, but that didn't make any sense to me given they also have a younger child.

Dude, your team won the Family class and came in 10th out of 28 3-hour foot teams! That's better than winning the Family PeeWee class! But you're right -- if the youngest kid on the team (traveling under her own power the entire time) is 8/under, you should be in Family PeeWee.
