The Cardinals route and notes

We had a great time on Sunday's Street Scramble (as usual). (The kids have now started this whining thing in the morning that they don't want to do Street Scramble, but once they're out there they always end up really enjoying it! Corinne said the ride down from 54 to 21 was like a roller coaster and lots of fun.)

Our ride was about 5 miles shorter than normal. We rode about 13 miles for 550 points. Our route was 44-22-15-35-53-14-36-33-42-11-25-24-32-46-23-56-54-21-34.

We stayed east of I-5 (except for 42) and north of the Montlake cut. We knew we wanted to get the checkpoints on the trails in the UW wetlands and on the campus itself because we always enjoy riding around there.

We saw Teriyaki Donut at the first couple checkpoints and then Loves Ketchup up near 53. We continued to see other teams throughout the race, which was fun.

I always enjoy riding out on the gravel trails in the UW wetlands area and we saw a large bird or two up in the trees while we were out there.

We always get caught going down narrow trails or up or down stairs in Ravenna park for some reason, and we successfully steered clear of that early on by just getting 35. Unfortunately, we had extra time at the end and I decided we should try to get 21 from 54 and we entered the park at a bad spot and ended up going up a bunch of stairs with the bikes and trailers. Not a good plan and not worth it for 20 points. Never again... (but I've said that before...).

Sometimes I have to make Cameron jump off the trail-a-bike and walk in order to get up hills (especially when he won't pedal), but on the way from 56 to 54, the hill going down (east around 54th or so) was so steep I made him walk down the hill!

We're looking forward to Gig Harbor!
